The development of industrial psychology as a discipline and personnel management as a profession is scrutinized against the background of the present economic situation. Unanticipated consequences of rapid growth in the field of personnel management are discussed and suggestions are made for improvement.

Die wyse waarop die bedryfsielkundige en die personeelbestuurder vir hul 'n plek in die Suid-Afrikaanse volkshuishouding voorberei het word krities onder die soeklig geplaas. Die skynbare onvermoë van die personeelbestuurder om tans sy funksie binne die onderneming te regverdig, word bespreek en areas waar onmiddellike bydraes wel moontlik is word kortliks aangetoon.
